Wood benches often follow simple designs. Take a look around, and you’ll see this statement is true. However, even if simple, they aren’t all alike. In fact, you can find quite a few innovations on the basic models. And when you choose benches made from high-quality wood, such as red or white cedar, the furniture can last for years.
A tree bench offers a roundish seat with an opening in the middle for a tree trunk. The bench lies close to the trunk, and people sit facing outward. They may rest their backs against the trunk. Or some benches include backrests. Usually, the bench stands on several legs for support. Some models offer optional backs; you can order either with or without a backrest, depending on your preference.
Other wood benches offer a roundish shape, except the people sit facing the inside of the circle. A sectional round bench might form a quarter of a circle. If you only need one bench, the curved seat offers a less conventional look. However, if you purchase more than one piece, you can put them together. Two sections form a semicircle, and four sections form a complete circle.
Storage benches usually look like chests. You store items inside the lower boxy portion, and a lid (hinged or otherwise) fits on top. For more comfortable seating, some manufacturers attach cushions to the lids of storage benches.
A variation of this design also converts into an ice chest. It looks and functions the same as a regular storage bench. But when you want to convert it to an ice chest for parties, you snap a vinyl liner into the chest and fill it with ice and drinks, or whatever items you want to keep cold. Whenever guests aren’t looking for drinks, you can fit the lid in place for extra seating. When you finish with the party, you can remove the liner and return any stored items to their place inside the bench.
Still another model offers a light weight. Typically, solid wood benches weigh in fairly heavy. However, some wood benches are built intentionally for light weight, sometimes no more than 10 pounds. For those who need easy-to-move seating, light benches offer a highly useful variation.
Finally, convertible wood benches offer two functions. In one position, they look like regular benches with backs. Yet in another position, they serve as tables. With these interesting benches, you get the most use from your space. As a result, these convertible benches are particularly helpful for small outdoor spaces.
You have many choices when you begin shopping for wood benches. Each offers different advantages. For some, the looks are the key. They offer a variety of ways to set up and customize. Other benches appeal to you based on multiple functions. These pieces work especially well for those who have limited space or who want more furniture for less money.
